Rating: 2 stars. Mostly for depression of the reader when finished.
This was the first book I read on vacation a couple of weeks ago, and it was detailed and filled with minutia. I thought the story was captivating, as it followed the characters through their (surprisingly intertwined) lives. But it was SO depressing I couldn’t get past that. Every time something fortuitous would happen, something even worse would follow right behind. More human rights violations than I’ve ever thought about at once…all in the same book.
Good read if you want a book to make you think about how good you have it.
