I really struggled to get through this book. It’s the story of a young girl who witnesses an event in the 1930’s that defines her future, though the event (as she tells it) was entirely fabricated. Lots of personal tragedy for the involved parties, etc.
Now, I have accepted the fact that I’m not a raving intellectual. Nor am I even close to being the world’s smartest person. I just didn’t get why this book had received such acclaim, or had a movie made to tell the story. To me, it was the story of how one girl’s fabrication caused a lifetime of hurt for her sister, her cousin, and her sister’s lover.
