Given how much I enjoyed Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, I was disappointed that this book didn’t live up to my expectations. It was made up of two separate parts—the first half was birth stories, the second half was the practical/instructive part—really directed at midwives. I’d categorize the birth stories more along the “hippy” line than I am, and the second half, although it was filled with practical information, was far more than I needed or wanted to know. In fact, at our birth class last week, I mentioned that I hadn’t enjoyed it, and that sparked a discussion about what the women on The Farm were smoking when it was written. Interesting stuff! I actually didn’t finish the book because I didn’t find it useful.
